The Translation Cauldron is here!

Some of you may already know me but, in case you were wondering, let me introduce myself:

My name is Valentina, I am 26, and I live in Rome, but I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy. Professionally speaking, I am an English to Italian Translator, Localiser and Subtitler. In 2013, I founded my translation business, which I decided to call Rockstar Translations.

In my everyday life, I am a slightly neurotic girl, a real control freak, and I am hopelessly addicted to TV-series, Harry Potter, Doctor Who (yes, you will find a lot of geeky references in my posts, so don’t say I did not warn you!) and everything related to the UK and Ireland.

Why “The Translation Cauldron”?

Cauldron (C) kinwart

When I think about cauldrons, I imagine witches and wizards brewing magical potions using the most incredible and strangest ingredients. We are all well aware that the idea of specialisation is key in the translation business. My goal for this blog is to explore this world and its multifaceted nature as much as possible. In this viewpoint, the Translation Cauldron becomes a metaphoric kettle, a container of different thoughts, opinions and facts about translation and languages, and I am the translator/witch behind it stirring its magical contents.

Why in English?

The most obvious choice for a rookie blogger like me would be writing in my first language, i.e. Italian. On the one hand, the pros would be countless for many reasons in terms of grammar, vocabulary, and so on and so forth. On the other hand, as I said before, I want The Translation Cauldron to be an adventure, a challenge, a way to improve myself both personally and particularly professionally. We learn by doing, but most of all, we learn by making mistakes.

If you want to know more about who I am, who I was and who I want to be, check out my profile on my newly launched website.

Feel free to drop a line in the comment box, or send me a message on Facebook and/or Twitter.

Thank you and rock on!

    Hi, Valentina!
I loved your first post! Way to go, girl!
I also love TV series, although I’m kind of behind schedule with the ones I watch.
And your reasons for writing the blog in English are pretty much the same as mine.
I’ve already bookmarked it here and am looking forward to the upcoming posts.

      Thank you, Caroline!
Your blog is one of the blogs which inspired me to begin this new adventure :)
I watch way too many TV-series. Sometimes I re-watch them because I miss them!
Which ones are you following right now?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment, and for spreading the word on other platforms.
      It means a lot!
      A hug,
